Integrating Physical Therapy into Dermatology Practice in Egypt: A Narrative Review

Abstract

Background: Traditionally, dermatology in Egypt has focused on diagnosing and treating skin conditions. However, a growing recognition of the link between physical well-being and skin health suggests that an interdisciplinary approach, integrating physical therapy, could improve outcomes.
Aim: This review explores the potential benefits of integrating physical therapy into dermatological practice in Egypt, addressing the multifaceted nature of skin diseases and the potential for enhanced patient care.
Methods: This narrative review examines the role of physical therapy, including manual therapy, exercise, and patient education, in managing dermatological conditions. It synthesizes information regarding the application of physical therapy techniques to improve mobility, reduce edema, alleviate pain, and promote tissue healing, highlighting its potential in both chronic conditions and post-operative recovery. The review also addresses the importance of raising awareness among healthcare providers and patients about the benefits of this integrated approach.
Conclusion: Integrating physical therapy into dermatology practice in Egypt offers a promising approach to enhance treatment outcomes, improve patients' quality of life, and support a more holistic, patient-centered model of care. Further educational initiatives are needed to promote the benefits of this interdisciplinary collaboration.
